On August 16th, 1920, Carl Mays hit Ray Chapman with a pitch, leading to Chapman's death — the only MLB player killed in a game. The grieving Indians, boosted by rookie Joe Sewell, won their first World Series, sparking a century-long rivalry with the Yankees.
